Slavery in Haiti
Why We're Great >
The french took people from Africa and brought them to Haiti because the indigenous population was decreasing and they need to make make money off the slaves. When the Europeans arrived, the native people who were there went from 600,000 to 500 because of the abuse and because they got sick (Understanding Slavery Initiative). The french would do anything in their power to make money. By the end of the 18th century saint Domingue was a french colony occupying most of the island, they were taking over the island to produce more money off the crops.

slavery in haiti
haiti is an independent nation in the Caribbean that occupies the western part of the island of Hispaniola with the Dominican Republic to the east, Spain had already claimed the island. Haiti was the French colony of Saint-Domingue. Haiti was taken over by the French who treated them wrong and unequal to grow crops and to keep them under their power, the French used them as tools and made money off of them and if any refused to do work they would be tortured or killed.
Haiti weren't going to let the french
takeover their land so they decided on
a war, they made a war in exchange
for their freedom and land. In the end
Haiti ended up defeating the french
which meant they had their land back.
